Human ’26 Day 4: In the Wild, Leadership Finds Perspective

AMBOSELI, Kenya — After days spent examining institutions, conflict, and the inner life of leadership, Human ’26 stepped into a world that seemed to ask for nothing from them.

The Fellows and Navigators spent the day exploring Amboseli National Park, encountering elephants, lions, buffalo, wildebeest, hippos, antelopes, zebras, warthogs, and an extraordinary variety of birds across the park’s open landscape.

Later, the delegation climbed to one of Amboseli’s elevated viewpoints, where the scale of the park came fully into view. From above, wetlands, plains, wildlife, and distant horizons stretched across a landscape operating according to rhythms far older than any institution or leader.

The beauty carried its own lesson.

Mwangi Mukami, founder of MLIFE Foundation, reflected that the earth and the natural world can continue without humanity, a reminder of how easily people can overestimate their place within the systems they inhabit.

For Human ’26, the experience deepened the week’s focus on coherence.

Leadership often begins with the desire to change something. Amboseli offered another perspective: before trying to reshape the world, leaders must understand that they are already part of systems larger than themselves.

Standing above the park, the lesson felt simple.

The world does not exist because we lead it.

We are here, for a time, to decide how responsibly we will live within it.
